“Latest news of the end of the world”
The end of the world has always been the heritage of religion and, occasionally, of Hollywood and its catastrophe films. However, science is accumulating data and begins to take seriously the risks that a natural phenomenon or caused by humans can end civilization. A recent report details the 12 major risks that could cause the Apocalypse announced in the sacred texts or in cinemas.

“Most Hollywood scripts demand heroic efforts to save us and millenarian religious groups look for a transcendent meaning to these disasters”, says the researcher of the Institute for the Future of Humanity of the University of Oxford (IFH) and co-author of the report, Stuart Armstrong. However, for science, “these risks are main issues that can be reduced to non-glamorous concepts, such as energy efficiency, and most have no meaning or rationality behind,” he adds.
