A search on the Internet about Android and security will bring us a multitude of articles in which, with better or worse intention, it is affirmed that Android is an unsafe operating system, or at least more insecure than the competition.

In this article, we will see what is true in these statements and what we can do to increase the security of our devices.

A bad choice and a lot of bad press

When Google launched Android decided to devote itself solely to the development and left the manufacturing and distribution in the hands of third parties. In a view to cope with the market did not establish requirements when using its operating system and so many manufacturers did not invest effort in the maintenance of the devices.

Thus, unlike the competition, many devices have received few updates and many of them have been stuck in the version of Android with which they were originally sold.

This has made almost 90% of the devices that are currently running run an Android version prior to Marshmallow, so although the manufacturer wanted to deliver security updates could not receive support from Google.
